Metal Analysis Spectrometers | Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) Systems

Anka Analitik is the authorized distributor of GNR Analytik Instruments (Italy) in Turkey, offering a comprehensive range of OES systems: from entry-level benchtop models and portable spectrometers to high-resolution laboratory systems and oil analysis spectrometers.

Optical Emission Spectrometers (OES) are advanced analytical instruments that determine the elemental chemical composition of metals and alloys within seconds, with minimal or no sample preparation. They are the industry-standard analysis method in foundries, steel production, aluminum casting, automotive, aerospace, and defense — wherever material quality is critical.

What Is an Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES)?

An Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) is a spectroscopic instrument used for the elemental analysis of metal samples. The device excites the sample surface using a high-energy spark or arc discharge, then separates the emitted light by wavelength to calculate the concentration of each element present.

Also known as Spark-OES or Arc-OES, this method is one of the most widely used techniques in the world for determining the chemical composition of metals.

How Does Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) Work?

  1. Sample Preparation: The metal sample is ground flat and positioned on the electrode stand.
  2. Excitation: A high-voltage spark is generated between the electrode and the sample, vaporizing a small amount of material into plasma.
  3. Emission: Excited atoms emit light at characteristic wavelengths specific to each element.
  4. Detection: The emitted light is directed through an optical system to CCD or PMT detectors.
  5. Calculation: Software compares measured emission intensities against reference calibration curves and reports each element's concentration in % or ppm.

Total analysis time: Typically 20–60 seconds.
