Gas displacement method
The method of gas displacement is a widely used and reliable technique for measuring the density of solid, porous, liquid, and semi-solid materials. It is extensively utilized in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, powder metallurgy, coating, foam, cosmetics, and construction.
Gas displacement method operates on the fundamental principle of Boyle's law, which establishes an inverse relationship between the pressure and volume of a gas at a constant temperature. This method involves expanding gas from one chamber to another under isothermal conditions, with both chambers having known volumes. Initially, the weight of the sample is determined and loaded into the sample chamber. Then, the sample chamber is pressurized to a pre-determined value. Subsequently, the analysis gas is expanded into a second chamber, known as the reference chamber. Finally, the BetterPyc 380 records the equilibrated pressures for both steps, and the density is calculated using these values.
