Carbonate and Inorganic Carbon Analyzer

Equilab CO-204
Fully Automatic Carbonate Analysis

NDIR Detection Dual Measurement Range ISO 925 · ASTM D1796 No Sample Pretreatment

The CO-204 analyzes solid and liquid samples directly — no drying, grinding, or pretreatment required. Combining acid digestion with a high-sensitivity IR (NDIR) cell, the system delivers results in the 0–60% CO₂ range in under 3 minutes. The instrument stops automatically when the reaction is complete.

Equilab CO-204 - Acid Digestion and IR Detection

Acid Digestion and Infrared Detection

The CO-204 decomposes carbonates using sulfuric acid and measures the released CO₂ with a high-sensitivity NDIR cell. A Peltier cooler and anhydrone filter keep the gas stream completely dry before it reaches the detector.

🔥
Acid Digestion
20% sulfuric acid is dosed by peristaltic pump and the sample is heated to 120°C with magnetic stirring. The instrument stops automatically when the reaction is complete.
Peltier Cooler
Moisture and acid vapors that could damage the IR cell are condensed and removed by the Peltier cooler before the gas stream proceeds.
💧
Anhydrone Filter
Residual trace moisture after condensation is fully captured by the anhydrone filter. Only dry, purified CO₂ reaches the IR cell.
📡
NDIR Detector
CO₂ is carried to the IR cell by a nitrogen carrier gas and quantified by non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) absorption — a method that maintains consistent sensitivity across the full range.

Real-Time Monitoring and Calibration Management

The integrated software handles calibration, analysis sequence management, and cell linearization from a single interface. All parameters are displayed in real time during the run.

Real-Time Graphical Monitoring
All parameters and system status are tracked live in high-resolution graphs throughout the analysis.
Flexible Calibration
Cell linearization and calibration curves are created and updated directly from the software interface.
Sequence Analysis
Analysis sequences for multiple samples can be programmed; the instrument stops automatically (Auto-Stop) when the run is complete.
Multiple Output Units
Results are reported as %CO₂, %CaCO₃, or mmol/L depending on the selected output format.

What People Ask

No. The CO-204 analyzes solid and liquid samples directly, with no pretreatment steps required. This capability significantly accelerates laboratory throughput.

CO₂ released by sulfuric acid digestion is transported to the IR cell by a nitrogen carrier gas and quantified by non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) absorption. The method maintains consistent precision at both low and high concentrations.

No. The Peltier cooler condenses moisture and acid vapors; the anhydrone filter then captures any remaining trace moisture. Only dry CO₂ reaches the IR cell — this design ensures long-term instrument reliability.

Yes. The dual measurement range (0–5% and 5–60% CO₂) handles both low-concentration slurry samples and samples approaching 100% carbonate content, such as limestone. Range selection is managed through the software.
